Central Asian and South Caucasus (CAC) universities associated with agricultural education, research and innovation for development (ARD) have decided to establish a regional consortium in the pursuit of their common objectives to contribute through collaboration and partnership to agricultural education, research and innovation and, in turn, contribute to agricultural development in the CAC Region.
Central Asia and South Caucasus Consortium of Agricultural universities for Develoment (CASCADE), initiated and supported by Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration, Uzbekistan (TIIM), Central Asia and South Caucasus Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (CACAARI), International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA), Project Facilitation Unit of the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) for CAC and GFAR.
Discussions on establishment of CAC Consortium of Agricultural Universities were done on several previous meetings such as Face to Face Meeting in Tashkent (2009), global consultation on “Information and communication management and agricultural research for development and innovation” in Hyderabad, India (2009), CACAARI meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (2010).
To involve the Agrarian Universities in the regional process of agricultural research for development the Foundation Meetings of the Consortium of Agrarian Universities were held at Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration, Uzbekistan on July 12-13, 2010.
The mission of Foundation Meeting of the Consortium of Agrarian Universities was to make an own contribution in agricultural education, research and innovation through collaboration and partnership for development of agricultural sector in the CAC region.
The representatives of Agricultural Universities of CAC region (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) members of CACAARI, representatives of international organizations, Scientific and Technical Centers, libraries, and from several foreign Universities participated on this Foundation Meeting.
